Alleged gunman enters plea one week after terrifying episode in The Villages

A would-be carjacker who terrified bystanders a week ago in The Villages has entered a plea in court.

Christopher Alan Grant, 48, a convicted felon and an apparent drifter, wound up at the Walgreens at Colony Plaza on Aug. 20 where he fired a shot that landed a bullet in the dashboard of a frightened woman’s Cadillac. She had tried to flea as Grant tried to open the door of her car.

He entered a plea of not guilty in Sumter County Court on Monday to the slew of charges he faces in the rampage that sent shockwaves this past week through Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies came in contact with Grant on Aug. 18 in the area of U.S. Hwy. 441 through “a field intelligence report.” They learned that Grant, who was convicted in 2020 of a drug charge in Santa Rosa County, had not registered as a convicted felon in Sumter County.
