Lady Lake man lands in jail after syringe found in pocket

A Lady Lake man who an officer recognized from a warrant received another charge for a syringe found in his pocket.

An officer spotted 40-year-old David Smart standing in the front yard of 204 College Avenue around 5:15 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. He recognized Smart and knew he had an active warrant for failure to appear (trespassing).

The officer approached Smart and asked if he had anything illegal on him. He stated he had a needle in his pocket and gestured toward his right cargo pant pocket. The officer did indeed find a syringe with a small amount of clear liquid in said pocket, the report said.

The liquid later tested positive for cocaine. The report noted that because there was not enough liquid left after testing it, it was deemed drug paraphernalia instead…
