Leesburg man busted with cocaine during traffic stop

A Leesburg man was arrested on drug charges after deputies found cocaine in his possession during a traffic stop.

A deputy saw a gray Jeep, occupied by 40-year-old Jermiah Jermaine Johnson, run a stop sign at the intersection of Snowberger Avenue and Industrial Street in Leesburg around 11:10 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag revealed it was owned by Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Leesburg.

The deputy stopped the vehicle at 2716 Seminole Trail and spoke to the driver who advised he did not have his license. The driver also denied consent to have his vehicle searched. So, the deputy wrote a warning for the stop sign violation and lack of license as a K-9 unit came to the scene, the report said.

The K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics, leading the driver and Johnson to be removed from the vehicle. The deputies found a broken glass smoking device in the passenger seat, and under the seat was a white contact case with cocaine. There was a baggie next to it with more cocaine, the report said…
