A homeless man in Leesburg was arrested with narcotics in his backpack while in an Uber on the way to a doctor’s office.
An officer observed a blue Toyota Venza SUV, occupied by 41-year-old Jason Willis Powell, heading west in the middle lane of U.S. Hwy. 441 at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. As the officer drove in the left lane, he noticed the front side window tint was so dark he could not see inside.
As he moved behind the vehicle, it seemed to slow down below the posted speed limit. He then initiated a traffic stop, and it pulled into the parking lot of Prime Auto Collision Center, located at 1700 U.S. Hwy. 441. He saw a female driver up front and Powell in the backseat while he measured the window tint, which was below the legal limit, the report said.
The officer asked how the pair knew each other, and Powell stated the driver was his Uber ride to a doctor’s office in Leesburg. He was holding a small dirty backpack between his legs during this interview. He was visibly nervous, could not keep eye contact and restlessly played with a small piece of trash in his hands, the report said…
