A burning mattress set fire to an Ocala apartment unit on Friday.
Ocala Fire Rescue units were dispatched on Friday, September 5, to a structure fire at 2135 NW First Avenue in the Ocala Place Apartments just after 5 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and flames emanating from the front window of a single-story, multi-family apartment. The front door was open, with thick black smoke pouring outside.
Firefighters with Ladder 3 made entry to locate the fire, while Rescue 1 searched the unit to confirm no occupants were inside. The source of the fire was quickly identified as a burning mattress.
