Suspect in battery case found hiding in park bathroom in Leesburg

A Leesburg man will appear in court for a pipe discovered in his pocket when officers found him hiding in the bathroom at Berry Park.

Offices responded to Berry Park, located at 2121 Johns Ave., to search for 32-year-old Stephan Johnson at 6:25 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, according to a case report from the Leesburg Police Department. He was a suspect in a domestic battery case.

Upon arrival, the officers checked the park’s gazebo area and the picnic tables due to several people in the area. He was not in either place, leaving the restroom the only place to be cleared. They found him next to the sinks, and as soon as they asked for his name, he turned toward the door and tried to knock them out of the way, the report said.

Johnson was subsequently detained for further investigation. When asked why he tried to run away, he stated he was scared because he had a pipe on him. He advised that it was in his back left jean pocket. The officers did indeed find a glass bubble with white residue in his pocket, the report said…
