Man accused of hitting the mother of his child during custody exchange

A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly hitting the mother of his child during a custody exchange.

Officers responded to an alleged battery involving 30-year-old Benjamin Timothy Lewi Jones at a Leesburg residence at 7:25 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The female victim advised that she came to the residence to pick up her one-year-old daughter from Jones, the father. When she got there, Jones’s mother approached her, and a verbal altercation ensued. The victim informed her that she was there to get her child in accordance with a court order, the report said.

Jones then came up to the victim and indicated he would facilitate the custody exchange. Once this was done, the dispute escalated. She tried to leave, at which point Jones allegedly jumped onto the hood of her vehicle and struck her on the left side of her mouth. She sustained a swollen upper lip and red lacerations inside her mouth, the report said…
