A Summerfield man was arrested after a K-9 sniffed out a smoking device under his seat during a traffic stop.
A deputy observed a white F-250, occupied by 53-year-old Damon Bryan Deel, on Center Street in Leesburg around 8 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The female driver was not wearing a seatbelt, leading to a traffic stop on Montclair Road and Thomas Avenue.
The driver advised that the seatbelt was broken, which was why she was not wearing it. She denied consent for the deputy to search the vehicle, and he wrote a warning while waiting for a K-9 unit to arrive. The K-9 ultimately alerted to the odor of narcotics, and the vehicle was searched, the report said.
Deel was then removed from the vehicle and had a very distinct change in behavior. Indeed, just under the passenger seat was a glass smoking device with methamphetamine residue. He originally stated he did not know it was there but later said he and the driver used it earlier in the day at work, the report said…
