Wanted man on bicycle rides away from officer ordering him to stop

A homeless man in Fruitland Park was arrested on a bicycle after riding away from an officer who ordered him to stop for a warrant.

An officer spotted 42-year-old Scott Andrew Lamons riding a bicycle on the sidewalk of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. They made eye contact, and the officer recognized him as having an active arrest warrant for failure to appear (possession of paraphernalia).

The officer then pulled into the parking lot of Phillips Buick and GMC, located at 2160 U.S. Hwy. 27/441. He got out of his vehicle and again made eye contact with Lamons. He commanded Lamons to “come here,” to which he said “no” and kept riding his bicycle, the report said.

The officer got back into his vehicle and pulled in front of Lamons. He got out again, pointed a taser at Lamons and told him to put his hands on the vehicle. Lamons complied and was subsequently arrested, the report said…
