Homeless man arrested after burglary at woman’s carport in Leesburg

A homeless man in Leesburg was arrested on burglary charges after allegedly trying to break into a woman’s carport.

An officer responded to a suspicious incident at an undisclosed Leesburg residence at 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. A man matching the description of 41-year-old Alfred Junior Woods tried to open the resident’s door. She had also seen him in her carport and was unsure of his intentions.

Upon arrival, the officer checked the area but found nothing. The resident advised that she got an alert from her ADT security system, and when she reviewed her cameras, she saw Woods approach her front door. He did not knock but instead walked off-camera into the carport, the report said.

She then heard shuffling noises and the sound of items falling over inside the carport. Moments later, he came back to the front door, tried to open it and knocked lightly. She confronted him through the security system and asked what he was doing. He said he “wanted to buy a bicycle,” and she immediately contacted law enforcement, the report said…
