A Groveland teen was arrested when deputies discovered pills and ammunition in his car after a vehicle and on-foot chase.
A deputy observed 19-year-old Marquis Lamar Stockes in a blue Infinite passenger car at the intersection of East Main Street and Sunnyside Drive in Leesburg at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle did not come to a complete stop at that stop sign or the next after turning toward U.S. Hwy. 441.
Seeing this, the deputy tried to stop the vehicle but was unsuccessful. It instead made a U-turn and sped west on U.S. Hwy. 441. Nearby deputies kept track of the vehicle as it went south on East Dixie Avenue, with one of them deploying stop sticks at the intersection of South Street and West Main Avenue. They worked, and Stockes pulled the vehicle over to flee on foot, the report said.
Several deputies chased Stockes into a nearby wooded area, during which he tripped and fell onto the floor. They commanded him to stay down as he tried to stand back up.
