A Leesburg man was arrested for burglarizing a carport when security cameras caught him stealing $550 in items.
Deputies responded to a burglary in progress at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect, 20-year-old Charles Edward Conklin, was stealing from the carport, and a resident watched him do it through her home security cameras.
Upon arrival, the deputies saw a portable grill strewn in the roadway. They were also able to find Conklin, out of breath and sweating profusely, at 1713 Indian Trail. He had a black ski mask around his neck, teal windbreaker pants and a pair of sunglasses in his hands, the report said.
A neighbor had seen Conklin and someone else crossing their property, pulling behind them multiple items, including an air compressor that had been taken from the residence. Of the $550 in missing items, the victim listed a $100 air compressor, a $100 plastic air gun, two $150 weed eaters, and a $150 battery powered fan, the report said…
