Villager on bicycle arrested after alleged attack on golf cart driver

A Villager who had been riding a bicycle was arrested after an alleged attack on a golf cart driver in a dispute over the use of a golf cart lane.

Dominick Chellino Jr., 68, of the Village of Chitty Chatty is facing a felony charge of battery after punching a fellow resident so severely that the golf cart driver was transported by ambulance to UF Health Leesburg Hospital, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

Chellino, who was active in the Joliet Bicycle Club in Illinois before moving to Florida’s Friendliest Hometown, was riding at about 10 a.m. Thursday with fellow cyclists in the Village of Fenney.

A man in a golf cart was on his way to play golf when he “saw a large group of bicyclists in the golf cart lane and began to pass them,” according to an arrest report. The golf cart driver realized that one of the cyclists “sped up and started cussing” at him. Several bicyclist “began following him” and ordered him to stop near the entrance to the Village of Fenney.
