DUI suspect admits to drinking white wine at Lake Sumter Landing

An Oxford woman and an Ocala man were arrested after she admitted to drinking white wine in Lake Sumter Landing before getting behind the wheel.

Deputies stopped 35-year-old Aleesha Anne Rose and 33-year-old James Lester Reid at Rainey Trail and County Road 115 in The Villages around 9:40 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Their vehicle’s headlights and taillights were not on.

As Rose, the driver, handed over her passport as ID, the deputy noticed her eyes were bloodshot and watery. Her breath smelled of alcohol when she spoke, and her speech was slow and slurred. Her movements were also very slow and lethargic, the report said.

Rose advised that she and Reid had just left Lake Sumter Landing where she had three glasses of white wine. She was then asked to participate in field sobriety exercises, which she agreed to do. Her performance, including staggering and not following instructions, led the deputies to conclude she was under the influence of alcohol, the report said…
