A golfer suspected of driving under the influence crashed into a golf cart at a country club in The Villages.
A woman was in her golf cart this past Sunday afternoon at Orange Blossom Hills Country Club on the Historic Side of The Villages when a truck backed into her golf cart, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. When officers arrived on the scene, the woman pointed to the truck, parked in a handicapped spot at the country club. The woman was not injured.
A witness told police that the driver had gone into the country club.
When officers located the truck’s owner, 66-year-old Kenneth Eugene Mathieu Jr., it appeared he had been drinking. The New Jersey native lives in the Lake Sumter Apartments on County Road 466 at Cherry Lake Road. His parents, now deceased, were long-time Villagers…
