K-9 unit sniffs out backpack with methamphetamine during traffic stop

A Leesburg woman was arrested after a K-9 unit sniffed out methamphetamine in her vehicle during a traffic stop.

A deputy stopped 45-year-old Nora Elaine Hawley in a grey BMW SUV in Lake County at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept.25, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. She had been speeding at 51mph in a 40-mph zone on County Road 473 near Pine Street.

A K-9 unit sniffed around the outside of her vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics within. The vehicle was then searched, revealing a black backpack directly behind the center console. Inside was folded tinfoil with two grams of methamphetamine, the report said…
