Villager in golf cart jailed on DUI charge after crash at gate

A Villager is facing a drunk driving charge after fleeing from the scene of a crash with another vehicle at a gate.

Patrick Joseph Reddy, 68, of the Village of Santo Domingo, was driving a golf cart in the wrong direction at about 5 p.m. Wednesday when he exited through the entrance lane of the gate at Cortez Avenue and Rio Grande Avenue, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. While traveling in the wrong direction, he sideswiped another vehicle. He also damaged the gate and some landscaping.

A couple in another vehicle saw the golf cart fleeing the scene of the crash. They began following the golf cart and a woman in the car ordered the golf cart to pull over. Reddy kept driving.

The couple continued following the golf cart and were joined in the pursuit by the driver of the vehicle which had been sideswiped. Reddy finally stopped the golf cart in the 800 block of Cortez Avenue. Prior to the arrival of police, Reddy offered to pay cash to fix the other vehicle and asked that law enforcement not be notified…
