Roaches and bad eggs forced the closure of a restaurant in The Villages.

An inspector ordered the closure this past Friday of Perkins Restaurant and Bakery at La Plaza Grande.

During an inspection of the restaurant at 905 Bichara Blvd., live roaches and additional roach activity were found, according to a report on file with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Restaurant personnel were apparently trying to combat the roaches, evidenced by a can of roach spray which was spotted on a nearby food prep table. However, that was considered another high-priority violation due to the proximity of a toxic substance near food preparation.

The inspector issued a “stop sale” after finding eggs with broken shells in storage. In addition, the inspector spotted an employee cracking raw eggs and then handling ready-to-eat food and utensils without engaging in handwashing…
