A Leesburg man who was stopped for a warrant was also charged for methamphetamine found in his truck after being arrested in Singletary Park.
A deputy spotted 44-year-old Peter Jackson Becton driving a black Ford Fusion in Leesburg around 1:15 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He was known to have a warrant for failure to appear for jury selection in Polk County and an invalid driver’s license as of Sept. 11.
As such, the deputy initiated a traffic stop on Howard Road. Becton continued to drive until pulling into the Singletary Park Fishing Pier, located at 1902 S 14th St., where he was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody, the report said.
A K-9 unit later responded to the scene and alerted to the odor of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a plastic baggie of methamphetamine under Becton’s cell phone in the center console, the report said…
