Convicted felon apprehended with firearm in Wildwood

A Wildwood man who was arrested on a warrant received additional charges for a stolen firearm found in his waistband.

Deputies responded to 5095 CR 167, Wildwood, to serve a warrant to 25-year-old Jay Joseph Fournier around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He had an active felony warrant out of Lake County.

Upon arrival, the deputies knocked on the front door of the residence with no answer. They found Fournier in the backyard, brought him to the ground and restrained him in handcuffs. He asked a deputy to take a handgun out of his waistband during this process, the report said.

This turned out to be a black Springfield Armory model XDM9 9mm with a weapon light attached to the front just below the barrel. The firearm contained 10 live rounds of ammunition, but none were in the chamber. A check of the serial number revealed it was reported stolen in Sumter County on Aug. 17, 2022, the report said…
