A Villager was arrested after a battle over vodka sent a woman to the hospital.
Michael David Pion, 60, who lives in the Katherine Villas in the Village of Caroline, was arrested on charges of battery and depriving use of 911 after deputies were called to a disturbance at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a woman who was intoxicated. She claimed that Pion had kicked her in the rib cage. She had suffered a laceration to her bottom lip and contusions on her left eye and cheek. She was transported by ambulance to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages. The arrest report did not disclose the nature of the relationship between Pion and the woman.
When she was interviewed at the hospital, the woman told deputies that Pion was pouring a bottle of vodka down a sink drain and she grabbed the bottle to try to make him stop. The Rhode Island native responded by twisted the woman’s wrist. She claimed he threw her against a wall, causing her to fall to the ground. When she was on the ground, he kicked her in the rib cage and punched her in the face, according to the report.
