An inmate at Lake County Jail was charged for attacking a detention deputy and barricading himself under his bunk in his cell.
A deputy responded to Lake County Jail, located 551 W Main St., Tavares, for a physical altercation involving 43-year-old Stephan Dale Wahl of Leesburg at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He had been in jail since Thursday, Oct. 16 for fleeing from police and resisting an officer.
Upon arrival, the deputy met with Wahl and told him the reason for the interview. He stated he was not aware of any incident and asked for medical services. The deputy read his rights, after which he did not want to talk about the physical altercation. He wanted to speak with a counselor instead, the report said.
The detention deputy involved in the altercation advised that he was working as a floor officer when he and other staff members approached Wahl’s cell. They found him lying underneath the bunk, and they ordered him to move out from there. They heard a gurgling sound and opened the door to check if he was having medical issues, the report said…
