Leesburg Police Chief Joe Iozzi gave a report to the city commission Monday night on the impact of the school speed zone cameras during the first year of operation.
Iozzi said that 19,267 citations were issued from Oct. 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024. He told the commission that 13,096 violators have paid fines totaling $1.2 million while 6,330 tickets are still being adjudicated.
The chief told the commissioners that pursuant to the Florida law which governed the installation of the 19 speed cameras in Leesburg school zones the state received $294,177.65, Lake County School District received $153,483.98, the school crossing guards received $63,951, the city of Leesburg received $360,952.12 and the company which installed and managed the system, Altumint, received $406,467.80.
