A Leesburg woman was arrested on drug charges after hiding unused needles and baggies of narcotics in her crotch area during a traffic stop.
A deputy stopped 42-year-old Toni Derrall Phelps in a black SUV in Tavares at around 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was seen stopping past a clearly marked stop bar, coming to rest within the pedestrian crosswalk of Gateway Drive and Duncan Avenue.
When the deputy turned on his emergency lights, he saw Phelps reach toward her crotch area before stopping her vehicle several hundred feet from the intersection. She was asked to step out of her vehicle due to these suspicious movements. She and her vehicle were then searched, the report said.
The deputy pat her down and asked what was in her back pocket. She took out some money and a piece of aluminum foil with 0.29 grams of burnt fentanyl. She initially stated the substance was new and had not been used but later advised that she grabbed it off a bed and took it with her, the report said…
