Homeless man allegedly steals his great-grandfather’s vehicle

An Apopka man was arrested after allegedly stealing his great-grandfather’s vehicle to go roll joints with an acquaintance.

An officer responded to a vehicle theft involving 21-year-old Andy Lamont Simon at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The owner of the vehicle, a bronze Hyundai Santa Fe, advised it had been stolen by his great-grandson Simon. He knew Simon was homeless at the time, so he was allowed to stay at the residence overnight, the report said.

The owner explained he went to bed at about 8 p.m. Monday. He and Simon were the only two people in the house and the only ones with access to it. Nobody else had keys, and he had not given anybody permission to use his vehicle, the report said…
