Driver with criminal history allegedly tried to run over girl who got off school bus

A Leesburg man was arrested for assault after allegedly trying to hit several young girls with his truck.

A deputy responded to an assault involving 22-year-old Dylan Scott Eckerdt and several juveniles in Leesburg at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

A juvenile girl stated she was walking home in the area of South Haines Creek Road and Northern Avenue when it happened. She had just gotten off the bus as a gray truck drove up from down the road and tried to swerve in her direction. She moved against a neighbor’s fence to avoid it, the report said.

Eckerdt, the driver of the truck, said something unintelligible, spun out and drove away. The juvenile victim feared for her life during this incident. She also knew the neighbor whose fence she was near, and she claimed the visible burnout marks on the ground in the area were caused by the truck, the report said…
