Pedestrian safety petition honors Ocala high school student’s tragic death

The family of Shannon Rushing, an Ocala teenager who was fatally struck and killed while she was walking to her school bus stop, has created a petition seeking a new law for pedestrian safety improvements across the state, including the installation of adequate street lighting on all state and county roads.

The petition for “Shannon’s Law” was created through Change.org by the late Rushing’s sister, Shanta Norton, on October 28. As of Monday, the document had already garnered over 3,000 signatures in just two weeks.
