Villager loses license after crashing into light pole in roundabout

A Villager has lost his driver’s license after crashing into a light pole in a roundabout.

Brandon Scott Salyer, 52, who lives on the Historic Side of The Villages, pleaded no contest Wednesday in Sumter County Court to a charge of driving under the influence. He will lose his driver’s license for six months, has been placed on probation for one year and has been ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.

He was driving a black Chevrolet Spark at about 7 p.m. Oct. 21 when he crashed into the light pole in the roundabout at Buena Vista Boulevard and Odell Circle near the Lake Miona Recreation Center, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Salyer’s car also collided with another vehicle.

The Kentucky native was “remorseful” about the accident and admitted he had been drinking. He said he’d consumed two to four beers about an hour before the crash…
