DUI suspect runs vehicle off road on the way home from bar in Leesburg

An Ocala man was arrested for driving under the influence after running his vehicle off the road with no memory of how he got there.

A deputy with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office saw 30-year-old Devin Gene Preston run off the road toward a retention pond at the U.S. Hwy. 441 interchange at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Office. His statements did not make any sense, but his most consistent story was that he was on his way home from a bar in Leesburg, the report said.

He could not really remember exactly how his vehicle ended up off the roadway, though. He stated he was making a U-turn and ran off the road, then denied driving the vehicle and at one point believed he had been pulled over by law enforcement. He swayed the entire time he spoke, even though he was standing in a flat grassy area. He also smelled like alcohol and marijuana, the report said…
