A son turned his car over to his mother after his arrest on a felony driving charge.

Kenya Kison Smith, 40, of Summerfield was driving a blue Hyundai at about 7 p.m. Friday southbound on North Main Street in Wildwood when an officer noticed the vehicle had a broken taillight, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

During a traffic stop, Smith admitted that his license was suspended, but claimed he was “working on getting it fixed.” He said he knew he shouldn’t be driving, but said his boss had called him and said he needed him to come into work. Smith also admitted he had been recently arrested in Marion County on a charge of driving while license suspended and that he was free on bond in that case. A check revealed Smith has had eight convictions for driving while license suspended.

Rather than have his vehicle towed, Smith handed the keys over to his mother, who was at the scene…
