Detectives with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help as they search for a suspected thief who snatched $100 in cash left behind by another shopper at a self-checkout station at a Walmart in The Villages.
A woman used the self-checkout station at about 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Walmart at Sarasota Plaza. She withdrew $100 in cash back, but accidentally left the money in the dispenser. She later returned to the store, where employees reviewed video from approximately 1:18 p.m. and confirmed she left the cash and another shopper took it shortly after. The suspect is an elderly white female with short gray hair. She left in a black Hyundai sedan. Images of the woman and her vehicle were captured on surveillance.
