Suspicious driving leads to arrest of Leesburg man on drug charges

A Leesburg man was arrested on drug charges after being stopped for crossing the fog line multiple times.

An officer saw 63-year-old Luis Enrique Ventura driving a black pickup truck northbound on U.S. Hwy. 441 around 4:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He struggled to stay in his lane and crossed over the fog line twice.

The officer kept watching the truck, and it crossed over the fog line again near Lee Street. It then pulled into the parking lot of Amscot, located at 1100 W North Blvd., where a traffic stop was conducted to check on Ventura’s well-being. He showed no signs of impairment and had no complaints about medical issues that could explain his driving, the report said.

A K-9 subsequently sniffed around his vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics, prompting a search of the truck. The officer found an organizer strapped to the driver’s side sun visor that contained a baggie of methamphetamine. A sunglasses holder attached to the headliner contained marijuana, the report said…
