Unlicensed drunk driver from Mexico backs into cop’s squad car outside Wawa

An unlicensed drunk driving suspect from Mexico was arrested after backing into a sheriff’s office patrol vehicle parked outside Wawa.

An officer responded to Wawa, located at 1400 W North Blvd., when 30-year-old Arturo Briano Gonzales struck a Lake County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle in the parking lot around 10:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officer saw the vehicles had been moved to the gas pumps. This included Gonzales’ truck, which he leaned against due to having trouble keeping his balance and swaying. He also sounded incoherent, but from what they could understand through the Spanish language barrier, he was not aware he hit a patrol vehicle, the report said.

The report noted that dash camera footage of the incident clearly showed the truck pull around the parking lot, then carelessly back up directly into the patrol vehicle. The impact should have been felt by the driver. The video instead captured him getting out of the truck as the sole occupant…
