A Leesburg man was arrested for theft when officers found him with a stolen bicycle on a path near Berry Park.
The owner of an undisclosed Leesburg residence was lying in bed when he got a notification on his phone around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. His security camera had detected someone, later identified as 44-year-old Jerald Anthone Hodge, stealing from his home.
The recorded footage showed a man picking up a green bicycle stored under the owner’s attached carport and carrying it out of the camera’s range. The owner immediately called the police for help, and they were able to find Hodge on the bike path near Berry Park, located at 703 Beecher St, the report said.
A subsequent check of his criminal history showed he had a past conviction for theft on Nov. 12, 2003, the report said…
