A Summerfield man was arrested for driving without a license after speeding through a school zone at The Villages Charter School.
A deputy spotted 58-year-old Efrain Santiago Astacio speeding in a red Honda Civic at 8 a.m. Friday on County Road 466 at the charter school, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Radar confirmed he was going 42 miles per hour in a 20-mph active school zone, leading to a traffic stop at Circle K at Southern Trace Plaza.
When asked about his driver’s license, Santiago Astacio advised that he had only an ID. He had been without a license since leaving Puerto Rico, but he tried to get one five years ago. At that time, his Puerto Rico license was surrendered, which he believed was because his license expired.
