Ocala native Jackie Kay III tapped into his local upbringing in Marion County to embody the titular character in his upcoming sports comedy, Signing Tony Raymond, which opens in theaters this week.
The movie will open in select theaters on Friday, Jan. 16. It tells the story of a college football coach who is dispatched to rural Alabama to sign the nation’s top high school defensive end, Tony Raymond.
Kay plays the titular recruit, navigating the chaotic world of college sports recruiting alongside a cast that includes Michael Mosley, Mira Sorvino, Charles Esten, and Rob Morgan.
Written and directed by Glen Owen, the movie also features appearances by two-time Butkus Award winner and college football icon Brian “The Boz” Bosworth, as well as Super Bowl champion and five-time Pro Bowler Marshawn Lynch…
