Bankruptcy court approves sale of massive Leesburg development for $66 million

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Middle District of Florida has approved the sale of a massive Leesburg development, Whispering Hills, for $66 million.

The purchaser is Sun Terra Communities which is based in Oviedo. The 1,088-acre Whispering Hills development was originally purchased by Marsan Real Estate Group for $22 million. Whispering Hills is located on the north side of Dewey Robbins Road and east of U.S. Hwy. 27.

Whispering Hills was approved despite opposition by dozens of neighbors at both the Leesburg Planning Commission and the Leesburg Commission. The original plan called for 2,302 units which will be single-family homes and townhomes with an additional 640 multifamily units.
