A homeless man in Fruitland Park was jailed after trying to bribe police officers who tried to arrest him.
Officers saw a silver Toyota pickup truck stop in a crosswalk at 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. Due to this, they conducted a traffic stop at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Palm Street. They then realized the passenger was 44-year-old Shane Lyn Beasley who had an active warrant for his arrest out of Lake County.
After a K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics, the officers asked Beasley to get out of the truck. He did so but pulled his arms away when ordered to turn around to be handcuffed. One of the officers then took a step back to grab his taser and aim it at Beasley’s abdomen, the report said.
The officer ordered him repeatedly to turn around and put his hands behind his back. Beasley instead lit a cigarette, leading the officer to grab him and push him against the side of the truck. He was finally handcuffed and escorted to a patrol vehicle, the report said…
