A Leesburg man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday for allegedly hitting two officers as they tried to care for a gunshot victim.
On Jan. 24, officers with the Leesburg Police Department responded to a shooting in front of a residence on Beecher Street, according to an affidavit of probable cause out of Lake County. There on the roadside, they found a man suffering from gunshots, including a critical wound to the head. Ryan Devon Simmons, 43, was connected to the victim and among the bystanders in the area at the time.
Law enforcement began giving life-saving care and asked for help from advanced medical personnel, the affidavit said. While providing treatment, they were approached by several of the bystanders. Simmons stood over top of the officers, yelling, “Who, who shot him? Who shot him!”
An officer who was trying to brief medical personnel on the situation had to pause to stop Simmons from yelling at the officer giving trauma care to the victim. He told Simmons to back up, to which he slapped the officer’s right arm. Simmons then pointed in his face and told him to back up, the affidavit said…
