Ocala credit union teller steals $3K from elderly customer’s account, police say

A drive-thru teller at an Ocala credit union was arrested after a regional manager discovered that $3,000 had been fraudulently withdrawn from an elderly customer’s account.

On Friday, January 16, an Ocala Police Department officer responded to the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union located at 5450 SW College Road in reference to an employee theft incident. The regional manager advised that an employee, identified as 38-year-old Maria Carballo, had “completed two fraudulent withdrawals from a customer’s account,” according to the arrest report.

During an internal audit of the Ocala branch, the regional manager allegedly discovered that Carballo had withdrawn $800 on Wednesday, January 14, from an account belonging to an elderly customer.
