The son of a couple in The Villages has been linked to stolen military explosives which prompted an evacuation earlier this month.
Edward Joynt was being held in the New Hanover County Jail in North Carolina in connection with an investigation conducted in coordination with the FBI.
Joynt has been charged with possessing 1.25 pounds of C-4, a plastic-based explosive commonly used by the military for breaching and demolishing structures.
Explosives were found Feb. 10 at a home on Yucatan Way in the Village of Rio Ranchero, prompting the evacuation of surrounding residences. Joynt had reportedly been in possession of the explosives since 2023.
