Florida man dies while snowshoeing in Adirondacks

New York State Police are investigating the death of a 51-year-old man from Florida. Forest rangers found him deceased at a lean-to Tuesday evening in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness in Essex County’s town of Schroon.

Accoding to State Police, Theodore S. Troth, of The Villages, Florida, was renting a cabin at Rowe’s Adirondack Cabins in Schroon. The owner notified authorities when Troth failed to check out of his lodging Tuesday morning. He was last seen on Feb. 19.

Nine forest rangers joined state police in the search on Tuesday afternoon. Rangers located the deceased man around 6:30 p.m. at the Oxshoe Pond lean-to. They carried him to the Crane Pond Road trailhead to the Essex County Coroner.

Troth was transported to Glens Falls Hospital for an autopsy. The date and time of the autopsy are to be determined…
