Leesburg mourns Ellen’s owner as GoFundMe aims to keep cafe open

A mom and a maternal presence in the downtown Leesburg restaurant scene, Ellen Bruce, died on Nov. 16 from cardiac arrest. She was 63.

“Our community has lost a truly special soul,” Leesburg Commissioner Alan Reisman told the Daily Commercial.

“Ellen Bruce wasn’t just the heart behind Ellen’s Café; she was a friend to so many, a champion for our downtown, and a smiling face you could always count on,” Reisman added. “She poured her passion into everything she did, and her café wasn’t just a business … it was a place where everyone felt welcome, known, and cared for. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and community will always remain in Leesburg.”…
