Wanted man hides behind locked door of surrounded house for over 20 minutes

A Leesburg man with a warrant was arrested for resisting after hiding from police in his house for over 20 minutes.

Officers responded to the home of 30-year-old Davonte Marques Heflin on Beecher Street around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He had an active felony warrant for flee/elude and driving while license suspended or revoked from a case on Feb. 12.

With uniformed officers, patrol vehicles and a K-9 barking loudly, Heflin was spotted near his white 2009 Audi SUV in the driveway. He then walked around the house toward the backyard, and officers rounded the corner quickly behind him. As they did so, they heard the back door close and lock, the report said.

The officers proceeded to knock on the door and commanded him to answer. They got no response but continued loudly banging on the doors and announcing themselves. For 22 minutes, they repeated themselves until he started talking to them through the closed door, the report said…
