Woman arrested at RV campground for alleged threatening texts

A Bushnell woman was arrested at Wildwood RV Village for allegedly sending threatening text messages sent to a fellow caretaker.

A deputy met with a female victim and a female witness at their residence in Bushnell around 11:40 a.m., Feb. 20, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The former advised that she had received written threats from 52-year-old Katherine Lynn Stearns.

She explained that she and Stearns had been caring for another woman. On Feb. 19, while visiting her at a hospital in Leesburg, the victim received multiple threatening texts from Stearns. The threats were direct, unequivocal and conveyed a serious expression of intent to commit acts of violence. They also indicated access to a firearm, the report said.

Due to the nature and specificity of these threats, the deputy believed there was a substantial likelihood that the victim’s safety was in jeopardy. She feared for her life and wanted to pursue criminal charges, the report said…
