Homeless woman allegedly tries to steal $222 worth of merchandise at Leesburg Walmart

A homeless woman was arrested for theft after allegedly stuffing $222 of merchandise into a duffel bag and walking out of Walmart.

An officer responded to Walmart, located at 2501 Citrus Blvd., for a retail theft involving 33-year-old Kalla Ann Keel around 10:25 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

A loss prevention employee advised that Keel and her male companion stuffed merchandise into a green duffel bag and left the store without paying. Keel was the one primarily responsible for the theft, as her companion left the store during the incident and returned to meet with her before she left, the report said.

The $222.95 with of items recovered from the duffel bag included a book safe, a portable fan, a survival kit, a bug zapper, a paintball gun, a steel hatchet, some drink mix and electrolytes. Security camera footage showed Keel put these things into the duffel bag and wore it on her back as she left the store, the report said…
