Officials to decide fate of trees standing in way of planned development

Officials will decide the fate of two historic trees standing in the way of a planned development.

The two historic trees are located on a five-acre portion of the Highlands at Hammock Oaks at 1245 Anderson Lane located on the north side of Anderson Lane approximately one-quarter mile west of Rolling Acres Road in Lady Lake. The five acres is on the opposite side of Rolling Acres Road, across from the massive Hammock Oaks development which will ultimately be filled with homes, townhomes, apartments and retail, including a new Walmart going up at the corner of County Road 466 and Cherry Lake Road. The property was annexed into the Town of Lady Lake in 2024.

The original plan for the Highlands at Hammock Oaks by the Kolter Group has been altered due “to changing market demands,” according to materials prepared for the Lady Lake Planning and Zoning which will consider the fate of the trees when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lady Lake Town Hall.

The Highlands at Hammock Oaks has been touted as the “premier section” of the development. Apparently, these homeowners want a little more breathing room and Kolter’s revised plan calls for the elimination of six lots at the Highlands at Hammock Oaks, slightly reducing the density of the development.
