Miya Tierney, 2, died in the summer of 2021. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said the toddler overdosed on fentanyl.
According to law enforcement, Miya’s parents told a sheriff’s detective they left their daughter alone for roughly 30 minutes and when they returned, she was unresponsive. They called 911 and the child was taken to a hospital in The Villages, where she later died.
The child’s father, Joseph Arthur Tierney, was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child. Jury selection for his trial was scheduled for March 9 in Circuit Judge Timothy McCourt’s courtroom. If found guilty, Tierney, 40, could be sentenced to 30 years in prison…
