Multiple injuries reported when truck crashes into school bus on US Highway 301

A commercial truck driver was seriously injured and multiple children sustained minor injuries when a truck collided with an Alachua County school bus that was stopped to pick up students on NE US Highway 301 north of Hawthorne on Monday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release sent later Monday morning, a 27-year-old Silver Springs man was driving a commercial truck northbound at 7 a.m. and failed to stop for a school bus that had stopped to pick up children. The truck collided with the passenger side of the stopped school bus, being driven by a 73-year-old Gainesville man, from the rear and the driver lost control of the truck and it overturned on US 301 northbound.

FHP reported that a 10-year-old Gainesville boy, a 16-year-old Gainesville girl, and two 14-year-old Gainesville girls sustained minor injuries…
