Homeless man with gun and drugs found passed out in Leesburg parking lot

A homeless man in Leesburg was arrested on drug and weapon charges after being found unconscious alone in a parking lot.

Officers spotted 26-year-old Justin O’Neill lying in the parking lot of the Citrus Business Center, located at 2204 Citrus Blvd., around 2:25 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He was alone on the concrete, and an officer had to yell to wake him up.

O’Neill came to in a confused daze, unable to give his own name. One officer spoke to him while another walked over to a nearby table that had a black fanny pack, some credit cards, an ID card and one empty hypodermic syringe. The grip of a Springfield XP .45 ACP handgun stuck out of the fanny pack, and O’Neill was subsequently detained, the report said.

A closer look at the firearm determined its magazine was loaded with six rounds. However, O’Neill had multiple prior felony convictions for controlled substances, meaning he was not allowed to have a firearm or ammunition. A search of his person revealed another magazine with six more rounds for the firearm, along with two more empty syringes, the report said…
